Mailchimp CSV to Excel Converter

Mailchimp exports CSV, not Excel, so this tool does the conversion for you, right here in your browser. Paste the CSV, convert it, and download an .xls file that Excel opens directly. Your data never leaves this page.

Run the conversion

Paste a CSV above and click Convert to Excel.

How it works

  1. Export a CSV from Mailchimp. The audience export guide shows the path: Audience, then Export audience, then Export CSV, then unzip the download.
  2. Paste the whole CSV file into the box above. If the export was a ZIP, paste one status CSV at a time: subscribed, unsubscribed, non-subscribed, and cleaned contacts each get their own file.
  3. Click Convert to Excel. The preview shows the first rows, and the result line states the row and column counts.
  4. Click Download .xls. Excel opens the downloaded file directly. Use Save As in Excel for a native .xlsx workbook.
  5. No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server, and closing the page discards your data.

The parsing rules, stated plainly

It parses CSV properly: fields wrapped in double quotes may contain commas and line breaks, and a doubled double-quote inside a quoted field becomes a single double-quote. Rows shorter than the header get empty strings for their missing trailing fields. Leading zeros survive, because every cell is written as text in the table, so a ZIP code like 02134 does not become 2134. If the CSV is malformed, an unterminated quoted field for example, the tool says so instead of silently producing a wrong file.

Why this tool exists

Mailchimp's native exports are CSV spreadsheets. Excel is not a native export format. The Excel workflow guide covers opening the CSV in Excel directly. This tool is the one-off conversion route for people who want a single Excel-readable file without opening each CSV by hand.
