Name Change Records Checklist

Update Social Security first — motor vehicle agencies check the name against the Social Security record. Then the license and the title, then the passport, then the private records. Only Florida and Colorado state a 30-day license deadline on the pages read; every other state's deadline cell says so honestly.

Your checklist

Pick a state to see its stated deadlines. Uncheck items as you complete them — the checklist keeps your progress on this page only.

How it works

  1. Pick your state. The license and title rows show that state's stated deadline — 30 days for Florida and Colorado, "no deadline stated" for the other states on the pages read.
  2. Work top to bottom: Social Security, license, title and registration, passport, then private records. The order is the requirement, not a suggestion — Florida and Colorado both verify the license name against the Social Security record.
  3. Check items off as you complete them. The checklist stores nothing and sends nothing anywhere; it is a page-local list.

The Florida 10-day figure found on one court page is not carried anywhere in this tool. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles states 30 days for both the license and the title or registration, and that is the figure relied on. California's 10-day rule is an address-notice rule under Vehicle Code section 14600, not a name-change deadline, and it is not presented as one here.
