Small Estate Value Limit Lookup

Pick a state to see its small estate value limit, what counts toward the limit, and the valuation date. Some states run two or three lanes with different limits. Enter a value to compare it against each lane cap that is a single number.

Check the value limit

Pick a state to see its value limit.

How to read the result

  1. The result shows every lane. A state with two or three lanes shows each lane separately, with its own cap and value definition. Passing one lane does not mean the estate passes another.
  2. Value means different things by state. Some states test gross value, some test value less liens and encumbrances, some exclude real property, and some count it. Enter the value the lane defines, not a single national figure.
  3. Some limits are not single numbers. Formula tests, base amounts adjusted for inflation, and year-of-death tiers cannot be compared against one entered value. The result states those tests in words.
  4. Open the state guide before acting. The state directory links every guide. A lookup result is not a filing decision.
