How Do You Claim Unclaimed Property in Florida?
Search the official Florida database for property held in your name, show it is yours, and file the claim. Here is how, step by step.
The Florida rule in one table
| Official portal | Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Unclaimed Property, at ClaimYourCashFL.gov | | Fee to claim | Free. Searching and filing a claim directly with the state costs nothing | | Review time | Not stated on the Department pages read for this guide | | Holder dormancy | Holders usually hold property for 5 years before reporting and remitting it to the Department | | Time limit | No deadline for most owners | | Contact warning | The Department will never contact property owners by text |
What makes Florida different
Florida is the rebranded portal state. The public name is now Claim Your Cash Florida, at ClaimYourCashFL.gov. Older official guides still name FLTreasureHunt.gov, so a search result or bookmark under the old name is the same program under its new name, not a different one.
The second Florida difference is the dormancy clock. Holders usually hold property for 5 years before reporting and remitting it, longer than the 1 to 3 year clocks in most other states in this directory. That means a recently dormant account may not be in the state database yet, and the absence of a listing is not proof that nothing exists. There is no deadline for most owners once the property is with the Department.
The process, step by step
- Search for and claim your account on ClaimYourCashFL.gov.
- Complete the claim form on the website.
- Submit the claim with any documentation the form asks for. The Division reviews the information to verify ownership before returning the property.
- Be ready to show identification, such as a copy of a driver license or proof of address, if the Division asks for it.
Claiming in the other states
Unclaimed property rules follow the same shape in every state, but the portal, the proof, and the wait change at the state line. See How to Claim Unclaimed Property in New York and How to Claim Unclaimed Property in Washington. For all seven states side by side, see the Unclaimed Property by State directory.
