Title Transfer Deadline Checker

The deadline runs from the purchase date, and it is short: 30 days in Texas and Missouri, 45 days in Indiana, a 5-day seller report plus a 30-day buyer fee clock in California. Pick your state and purchase date — the checker does the calendar arithmetic and names the penalty.

Check your deadline

Pick a state and enter the purchase date to see the deadline.

How it works

  1. Pick your state and enter the purchase date. The checker adds the state's stated window — 30, 45, or 60 days — and shows the deadline date.
  2. Read the penalty line: what accrues, from which day, and to what cap. Where the state pages state no deadline, the checker says so instead of computing a date.
  3. File at the office named in your state's guide before the deadline. The title transfer by state directory links every state guide with the form, fee, and office.

The seller's clock and the buyer's clock are different duties. In California the seller must report the sale within 5 days — which protects the seller from the buyer's tickets and tolls — while the buyer-side transfer fee clock runs 30 days before the $15 penalty attaches. The often-quoted "buyer reports in 10 days" line mixes the two duties together. This checker computes the buyer's deadline; sellers should report on day one regardless of state.
