How to read the result

  1. The fee is the walk-in title charge. Where the official pages state no fee, the result says so instead of repeating an unofficial figure. Pennsylvania states no fee on the pages read, and New Jersey states its $60 and $85 figures only in death-transfer sections.
  2. The deadline is the transfer clock. Some states count days from the sale, some from a move, and some state no deadline at all. Virginia's 30-day rule applies to persons moving to Virginia, not to in-state private sales.
  3. The form is the paper the office wants. Bring the form named, plus the signed title. Several states need the seller's signature notarized.
  4. The odometer rule is the mileage statement. Most states require the seller's mileage on the title or a disclosure form, with age thresholds that differ by state.
  5. This checker covers the 12 states added on October 29, 2026. The other 8 state guides are linked in the Car Title Transfer by State directory. Open the state guide for the full steps, the lien rule, and the out-of-state procedure behind the numbers above.
