How Do You Connect Mailchimp to Qlik?
Qlik is the one destination in this cluster with a first-party connector: Qlik's own Mailchimp connector reads your campaigns and lists through the Mailchimp API, no CSV export and no third-party driver in between. Here is the connection, the tables, and the cache rule that shapes how fresh your data is.
The Qlik connection in one table
| Question | Qlik rule |
|---|---|
| Connector | Qlik's own Mailchimp connector (Qlik Cloud integrated; Qlik Web Connectors for Qlik Sense and QlikView) |
| API | Mailchimp API 3.0 |
| Authentication | Mailchimp API key. Users with Manager permissions can generate API keys, and users with Admin permissions can view them |
| Tables | Campaigns, CampaignReport, CampaignClickReport, CampaignTimeSeriesReport, CampaignEmailActivityReport, Lists, Members, ListSegments, ListGrowthHistory, UserInfo |
| Cache | Results are cached for six hours by Qlik Web Connectors. You can clear the cache through the interface or with a load script request |
| Rate limits | The Mailchimp API 3.0 throttling limits apply; if a reload hits the limit, later calls fail until usage falls back under the limit |
What makes Qlik different
Qlik is the only destination in this cluster with a first-party connector. Qlik's own Mailchimp connector is first-party: it uses the Mailchimp API 3.0 to read your lists and campaigns, unlike Tableau and Postgres, which need a CSV import or a third-party driver. Tableau needs a CSV import or a paid ODBC driver, and Postgres needs a CSV load or an ETL pipeline — both go through something else. Qlik's connector talks to the Mailchimp API directly, so the tables it loads (CampaignReport, CampaignClickReport, Members) are API tables, not files. The trade for that directness is the cache: results sit for six hours, so a Qlik app is not a live view of Mailchimp, and a reload that hits Mailchimp's API rate limit fails until usage drops back under the limit.
The process, step by step
- Get a Mailchimp API key. You need a Mailchimp API key. Users with Manager permissions can generate API keys, and users with Admin permissions can view them. Keep the key private: it authenticates the whole connection.
- Create the connection in Qlik. Create a data source connection with Qlik's Mailchimp connector and authenticate it with your API key.
- Load Campaigns first. Use the Campaigns table to fetch your campaigns and their campaign IDs. CampaignReport and the other campaign tables need a campaign ID, and this is where you get it.
- Load the report tables you need. CampaignReport retrieves a specific campaign report. CampaignClickReport gives clicks on specific links, and CampaignTimeSeriesReport gives campaign time data. Select the fields you need under the data preview and insert the load script.
- Load list tables the same way. Lists returns the list IDs that every other list table needs. Members, ListSegments, and ListGrowthHistory all take a list ID from that first run.
- Plan around the cache and the rate limit. Results are cached for six hours by Qlik Web Connectors. You can clear the cache through the interface or with a load script request. If a reload reports that the API rate limit was reached, wait for usage to fall back under the limit before reloading.
The other Mailchimp destinations
- Export a Mailchimp campaign report — the CSV route, for a single report.
- Mailchimp export methods by destination — every destination in this cluster, side by side.

This page explains how the process works and what the official documentation says. It is general information, not advice about your specific account or data — a live connector grants Qlik access to your Mailchimp account, so check its permissions before connecting it.
