How it works

The parsing rules, stated plainly

It parses CSV properly: fields wrapped in double quotes may contain commas and line breaks, and a doubled double-quote inside a quoted field becomes a single double-quote. Empty cells become empty strings, and rows shorter than the header get empty strings for their missing trailing fields. If the CSV is malformed — an unterminated quoted field, for example — the tool says so instead of silently producing wrong JSON.

Why this tool exists

Mailchimp's native exports are CSV spreadsheets — JSON is not a native export format. The JSON guide covers the other two honest routes (the API reports endpoint for developers, and paid connectors for scheduled JSON files); this tool is the free one-off route.
