Before you order

Check three things before you pay: the right office, the right copy type, and whether you are eligible for a certified copy at all. New York has two offices, California has two copy types, and Oregon and Florida restrict who can order far more narrowly than the other states. If you are not eligible for a certified copy, check the informational copy route in California and Washington first. See Who Can Order a Birth Certificate for the eligibility table, and use the Birth Certificate Lookup to get your state office, fee, and wait.
